Dr Bruce Lipton: Biology of Perception 5of7- Your Genes are NOT your Destiny

June 11, 2009

“When a gene product is needed, a signal from it’s environment activates that gene.” Your environment can selectively mutate your genes if your environment is expressing signals that you can’t produce protein for.

“When a gene product is needed, a signal from it’s environment, NOT an emergent property of the gene itself, activates expression of that gene.”

Inside the nucleus of a cell is 50% Protein 50% DNA. Protein is what controls the DNA and until recently it hasn’t been studied.

Protein forms a sleeve around DNA.

Primacy of the Environment: An environmental Signal changes the shape of the regulatory protein by exposing the DNA from the protein sleeve allowing it to copy itself via mRNA and producing a specific protein. It’s the environment that selects your genes.

Perception controls genes.

Nucleic acids are replicated with conspicuous fidelity. Infrequently, however, they undergo changes in sequence, and this process of change (mutation) generates the variability that allows evolution. As the result of studies of bacterial variation, it is now widely believed that mutations arise continuously and without any consideration for their utility. In this paper, we briefly review the source of this idea and then describe some experiments suggesting that cells may have mechanisms for choosing which mutations will occur.

Your environment can selectively mutate your genes if your environment is expressing signals that you can’t produce protein for.

We are controlled by our responses to our environment.

Learn more about cellular biology in 10 minutes than most college graduates will ever know.

If you are a pencilneck it’s because your training and nutrition is of pencilneck quality. Stop blaming your parents.

If the genes control biology, then at least 120,000 genes would be required to make a human. but when the human genome projects results were in, … it was discovered that 2/3rds of the genes (needed to support their model) were missing. Its not that the genes were missing, it was the understanding that was wrong.

Oprah’s Top 7 Tips for Creating The Life You Want

June 16, 2008

My Interpretation of Oprah’s Top 7 Tips for Creating The Life You Want

1. Keep your focus in the right place.
Too many people Multi-Task. Multi-tasking doesn’t work, before the phrase “multi-task” there was no such thing as ADD or ADAH. Pick out something important to do that you love to do and stick with it. See where that gets you.

2. Redefine failure.
To fail only means you didn’t get what you want in the time you wanted it. Use this as a learning experience and think “as if” you still can get something like what you want. Work backwards and try again to get what you want. It took Edison 1001 tries to get the light bulb to work. The other 1000 tries were just 1000 ways it wouldn’t work.

3. You are fuelling your own fear.
Do you want to fuel your fear by focusing on it? Focus on what you can do and what you can control and the fear will melt away.

4. Do the right thing.
We all know the difference between right and wrong. Sometimes we let the people around us influence in the wrong way. Be strong enough to stick to your moral code.

5. You get what you give. In more than one way.
The secret of the law of attraction works both ways. If you are always trying to fix other people instead of working on yourself you will only get more heartbreak. Free your mind and the rest will follow. If you have faith in yourself and stay real, the negative people around you will disappear. If you continue to try to fix them, they will continue to wreck you.

6. Let go of the past. Live in the present.
The “Now” is the only time we have. The past is in our mind and the future is not hear yet. You can never move ahead if you are always looking behind.

7. It’s up to you what happens.
You are always in control of your life. You might blame other people for your troubles but ultimatly you put yourself in the position for them to take advantage of you. Blaming yourself and focusing on the “why” will not help you get out of the situation unless you break yourself away from the emotion of the situation. Learn and move on. Stop waisting your time fuelling your victim and grow

The Meaning of Placebo

June 6, 2008

http://www.mindhacks.com/blog/2008/06/the_meaning_response.html
The movie “The Secret” talks about the Law of Attraction. How we attract is caused by and filtered by the meaning of our beliefs. In Daniel Moerman’s book “Meaning, medicine and the ‘placebo effect'” the strength of the placebo directly connects to the meaning a person puts on to the remedy.

Moerman calls this the “meaning response”; the meaning response seems to be most effective if meaning is reinforced from an authority figure. This athority figure gives permission to the patient to get a better response from the remedy. The meaning response from placebo doesn’t seem to work if an authority figure doesn’t give permission to the patient to respond. If the patient could get a meaning response without the authority figure would they even be available to be studied?

Many aboriginal medicines were effective because the amount of meaning patients and healers put on them. Voodoo, Witchcraft, ect, use icons to produce spells on people. Can these spells be another version of the “meaning effect” of placebo?

Build a Frame for Change

June 2, 2008

Vision + Skills + Incentive + Resources + Action Plan = The Type of Change You Want

Change happens all the time but many times we aren’t in control of that change. Blaming your problems on others won’t change your life much. It’s much easier to change yourself than someone else. It’s so easy to make yourself feel better in the short-term to blame someone else for your problems. If you want long-term happiness you have to take control of your life and shape your own good luck.

Vision: What is your Vision of your future? What do you really want?

Take the next 5 minutes to come up with 5 things that you really want in your life. Prioritize them in the order of what you want most. Scratch out the bottom 2. Now prioritize them to the ones that would make the biggest impact on your life if they happened. Scratch out the bottom idea. Now prioritize the 2 you have left into the 1 that could happen the soonest if you really put an all out effort into making it happen. You now have your Vision for the change you want.

Skills: What do you call an activity you are passionate about, but have no skill in? A hobby! Now that you have your vision you must find out what kind of skills you have toward your vision. More importantly what skills you need to learn in order to get your vision. This is ego check time. You might want to be Mr. Basketball star but you may be 5’4″ like me. Yeah, Spud Webb made it but who else.

Incentives: What pleasure will you get from this goal? What pain will you avoid if you get this goal? What pleasure have you gotten in the past from not getting this goal already? How much pain will you still be in if you don’t get this goal?

Resources: Who can mentor you through this change? Do you have friends that will morally support you through this change? What alliances can you build through networking that will help you get your goal? Do you have enough money to get your goal? Do you need to get certifications or have prerequesites for your goal to happen?

Action Plan: Tony Robbins calls it a Massive Action Plan. Tony asks 3 very important questions so your Action Plan can become Massive. Tony Robbins Massive Action Plan starts with a tangible purpose and is results based. The MAP you build to get you to destiny will involve chunking ideas into groups of no more than 4. The majority of people can only hold onto 4 ideas at a time. David Allen has a system he calls Getting Things Done that organizes these chunks into logical steps that will make you successful.

Dreams can become reality if you wake up and put your plan into action. Change happens either to us or because of us. Take control and be the change that you want.

The Power in the Belief of the Placebo

June 2, 2008

Placebos are fake medicines designed to fool people involed in a clinical study. Many times the Placebo is almost or just as effective as the medicine being studied. Placebos are so effective they will now be sold as a dietary supplement and will be recommened for nagging children.

Placebo works so well that Nocebo is it’s opposite. Nocebo is something that people are convinced is the exact opposite of what it really is.

The biggest problem with it is it’s unpredictability. The effectivness depends largly on how susceptible the patient is to the suggestion. The more susceptible someone is to an outside solution the better the result will be.

Many watchdog organizations are worrying the drug companies are teaching kids to seek solutions from pills made by drug companies.

“Dr. Brody said parents did not need a pill to induce the placebo effect. Mothers have long promised to “kiss it and make it better” and it is that type of placebo children really yearn for, he said.”
