Stress Hormone Causes Aging

July 18, 2008

The stress hormone cortisol causes pre-mature aging of the immune system. Cortisol shortens a protective cap called telomere that allows the cells to keep dividing. The shorter the telomere, the shorter the cell’s lifespan will be. Telomeres shorten every time a cell divides the telomere shortens, acting like a clock for each cell.

The reason cancer cells are so strong is because their telomeres don’t shorten enough during cell division. A healthy cell lives a proper and preset time. An unhealthy cell either lives too short, not allowing the body to replace it time, or too long, allowing uncontrolled growth.

Diet Cuts Cancer Risk by 22%

July 7, 2008

Mediterranean-style diet cuts cancer risk by up to 22%. It might be possible to cut cancer rates by 12% just by keeping your diet high in omega 3 and cutting your dietary omega 6 fatty acids.

“The study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, monitored the prevalence of all types of cancer from stomach and bowel to liver, cervix and brain tumors. They looked at men and women, and took into account other risk factors, such as smoking and lifestyle.”

Runners High Will Protect Against Cancer

June 21, 2008

A protein released called beta-endorphin peptide (BEP) during the “runners high” can protect against cancer. BEP helps protect the body from the spread of cancer cells. BEP increases the effectiveness of Natural Killer (NK) immune cells. NK immune cells surround, attack and destroy the cancer cells. NK immune cells also brings down swelling and slows down the spread of cancer while attacking the cancer.

Norman Cousins cured himself of cancer by laughing himself to health. He was a terminal cancer patient who found out it would cost him and his insurance company less if he moved out of the hospital and into a hotel. He hired a nurse and started watching comedy movies. He cured himself of cancer by laughing and feeling good until he got better. His body took care of the cancer and he went on to live many years and write many books on the subject.

“Scientists have been aware for many years that if cancer patients are not able to deal with the stress associated with being sick, the cancer will progress faster than in calmer patients. To counteract this phenomenon, physicians encourage treatments that help cancer patients handle their stress. Scientists theorized that the stress relief may have come as a result of increased beta-endorphin peptide (BEP), the “feel good” hormones in the brain that are released during exercise, a good conversation, and many other aspects of life that give humans pleasure.”

Dark Chocolate vs. Milk Chocolate: Which is Healthier

June 7, 2008

Dark Chocolate has many antioxidants, the antioxidants known as polyphenols and catechins.

The polyphenol families of procyanidins & epicatechins are strong antioxidants also found in many plants and vegetables including red grapes & wine. Proanthocyanidins play a role in the making of collagen & elastin and can lead to a stronger circulatory system. Proanthocyanidins are also shown to speed up recovery from plactic surgery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proanthocyanidin

Catechins, in particular epicatechin found in dark chocolate, can reduce the risk of four of the major health problems: stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes.

Milk Chocolate has no antioxidant activity due to milk binding the antioxidants. To take advantage of the antioxidant activity of chocolate you need to have 70% cocoa solids and no milk.

Reason Cells Die Found

May 23, 2008

Cells normally destroy themselves at a rate of 1 million per second while being replaced at that same exact rate.  When cells refuse to stick with the game plan that’s when we get into trouble.  Cancer, and other deseases can form if cells start to die too fast or die too slow. 31,536,000,000,000 of our roughly 50 to 80 trillion cells are replaced per year. If you think you are the same person you were last year science proves you wrong.

Scientists from the land down under now understand what how cells die.  A protein called Bak breaks into and damages, the protective barrier of the cell’s powerhouse, the mitochondrial membrane.

This is good news because better ways of attacking cancer and auto-immune deseases will be invented.

Vitamin D can lower Breast Cancer Rates

May 21, 2008

Researchers at UCSD did a study that shows a direct link between the amount of Vitamin D in the body and the risk of Breast Cancer.

“This is the first study, to our knowledge, to show that higher serum levels of vitamin D are associated with reduced incidence rates of breast cancer worldwide,” said Cedric F. Garland, Dr. P.H., professor of Family and Preventive Medicine in the UCSD School of Medicine, and member of the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.
